The Aptera Solar EV Looks Ready For Production In New Videos
The Aptera company has been relatively quiet in recent months, but they have just received their first production body from Italy, where it is manufactured by the CPC Group. This brings them closer to starting production of their unique three-wheeled solar electric vehicle. Although first customer deliveries were delayed until 2024, it is possible that they may be delayed further due to financial constraints.
A visit to the company’s California headquarters by Wouter Remmerie, founder of AirShaper, revealed that they are using aerodynamic simulation tools to refine the design of the Aptera vehicle. This virtual wind tunnel testing is cost-effective and efficient, allowing for validation of the design before actual wind tunnel testing.
A video posted on AirShaper’s YouTube channel showcases a working prototype of the Aptera vehicle, with comments from CEO Chris Anthony. The design of the three-wheeler’s body is compared to that of a helicopter or airplane fuselage, resulting in a very low drag coefficient estimated to be between 0.13 and 0.15.
The prototype was also taken for a test drive, highlighting its impressive handling and interior finish. The vehicle was praised for its sporty feel through corners and its overall quality. There are also videos available online for a closer look at the Aptera prototype, showcasing its exterior and interior features in detail.
Despite the delays in production, Aptera remains committed to bringing their solar EV to the market by the end of 2024. The company continues to work on refining the vehicle’s design and preparing for production.
