Gold-Plated Tesla Cybertruck: A Unique Wrap
YouTube channel JerryRigEverything recently posted a video showcasing a Tesla Cybertruck wrapped in 24-karat gold. The project was made possible by a channel sponsor, who spent upwards of $60,000 to have the vehicle covered in gold.
The process of gold-plating the Cybertruck involved several steps. First, the vehicle’s sensors, cameras, mirrors, and exterior trim were removed. Next, a sponge with an anode attached was used to etch the surface of the stainless steel body, creating a hydrophilic surface that allows liquids to cling to it.
A thin layer of gold was then applied to the surface, followed by a layer of 99.7% 24K gold. The gold was refined and deposited into a toothpaste-like solution, which was then applied to the surface using an electroplating process.
The entire process took multiple people working for days to complete, and required a lot of precision to avoid errors. Whenever a mistake occurred, the area had to be polished off and started over from the beginning.
After the gold plating was complete, a protective film was applied to the surface to keep it safe from scratches and damage. The film is designed to last for up to a decade, and is resistant to car washes and other forms of cleaning.
The result is a truly unique and eye-catching vehicle that is sure to turn heads on the road. While it may not be the most practical or practical use of gold, it’s certainly a conversation starter.
