These New Nissan Sedans Are a Nice Break from the SUV Madness
The Auto China 2024 show in Beijing is currently underway, and it’s not just about crossovers and SUVs. Following Mazda’s introduction of a new electric 6 with rear-wheel drive, Nissan has now revealed its own pair of sedans. The Epoch is fully electric, while the Evo is a plug-in hybrid, distinctly different from the Mitsubishi rally-bred sedan.
Developed in partnership with local collaborator Dongfeng Motor, these sedan concepts are set to enter production. Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida mentioned during the press conference that they are already in the development phase and are “very close to reality.” The Epoch is expected to be available for purchase within a year, while the Evo will follow later.
The sedans seem to be similar in size, with the Evo boasting a more daring design featuring a sloping roofline and stylish rear end. The interior of the Evo is showcased, presenting a minimalist approach similar to Tesla by integrating all controls into a large tablet-like display. Additionally, a digital instrument cluster slightly larger than the norm can be seen.
Despite the Evo name hinting at performance, Nissan describes it as a car “perfect for weekend getaways and creating special moments for the whole family.” The competitive market in China features various sedan offerings from automakers, such as the new Volkswagen Passat Pro.
In addition to the sedans, Nissan also displayed a couple of SUVs at the Auto China show. The electric Epic and plug-in hybrid Era share design elements with the sedans and are scheduled for release within the next three years. The Epic offers bidirectional charging, while the Era features air suspension, zero-gravity seats, and four-wheel drive.
