A few years ago, most car manufacturers made the main bet on the development of electric cars and the complete transfer of their model range to electric traction. However, sales statistics indicate a significant slowdown in the growth of sales of electric cars, despite the fact that hybrid models are gaining popularity. The Audi company (as well as the entire Volkswagen concern) hoped to skip the hybrid stage, but reality made its adjustments.
The head of the company, Gernot Delner, admitted that the transition to electric vehicles will take longer than expected.
The way out of the predicament of the head of Audi can be seen in the increase in the number of plug-in hybrids. For this, the company is already preparing a new family of internal combustion engines optimized for work with an electrified power plant. It is assumed that the purely electric range of such models will be about 100 km.
The official strategy of the Audi brand, as before, foresees the creation of a full line of electric cars by 2033. However, Gernot Delner now believes that the three types of power plants (diesel, hybrid and electric) will co-exist equally for at least the next decade.
