The Electric Car Market in Turkey: A Surging Industry
The latest data compiled by the International Energy Agency (IEA) reveals that sales of Electric cars in Turkey have soared eightfold in 2023, reaching an impressive 68,700 units. This significant increase marks a substantial growth from the previous year, where only 7,540 electric cars were sold in 2022.
A Shift Towards Electric vehicles
Of the 68,700 electric cars sold in Turkey in 2023, the majority were battery electric vehicles (BEVs), with 66,000 units being BEVs and the remaining 2,700 units being plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). This shift towards electric vehicles is also reflected in the overall market share, with electric cars accounting for 10% of all vehicle sales in 2023, compared to just 1.1% in 2022.
The Impact of the TOGG T10X
The introduction of the TOGG T10X, Turkey’s first domestically manufactured electric car, has played a significant role in fueling the growth of the electric car market in the country. Since its debut in late 2023, the TOGG T10X has become a popular choice among consumers, with 20,000 units sold by the end of the year. With its launch price of just over 50,000 dollars, the TOGG T10X has quickly become the fourth most popular car in Turkey.
Turkey’s Record-breaking Automotive Industry
The surge in electric car sales in Turkey is part of a larger trend of record-breaking performance in the country’s automotive industry. In 2023, more than 1.2 million vehicles were sold in Turkey, surpassing the previous record set in 2016. This growth highlights Turkey’s position as a key player in the global automotive market.
