Lotus' new electric sports car could cost around $95,000 when it hits the market, meaning it will be slightly cheaper than the British marque's current V6-powered Emira sports car.
Lotus is expected to launch its new electric sports car in 2025. The new model, currently known as the Type 135, will compete with the electric Porsche Cayman and Boxster. The Type 135 was originally planned to be developed jointly with Alpine, but the companies disagreed on the project.
It is known that the basis of the sports car will be the new LEVA architecture, which is easily configurable and will be used for several cars.
In the case of the Type 135, Lotus will install the battery directly behind the passenger compartment in the same area as the engine on mid-engined cars.
While most electric cars have batteries in the floor, placing them behind the cabin will allow Lotus to optimize the driving position, allowing passengers to sit as low as possible. Car Magazine claimsthat the basic version of the novelty will have a traction battery with a capacity of 66 kWh, and more expensive options – a battery with a capacity of 99 kWh.
At least two variants of the power plant are also expected. The most affordable will be a single-engine version with rear-wheel drive and a capacity of 462 hp. At the top of the model line is a car with a pair of 872 hp engines. and all-wheel drive system.
