The Swedish company SCA – one of the largest producers of lumber and pulp in Europe – annually transports up to 8.5 million cubic meters of wood. Recently, the company's vehicle fleet was replenished with an innovative logging truck on the chassis of a Scania 25P (6×4) electric tractor.
The road train, the gross weight of which reaches 70 tons, and the carrying capacity of 50 tons, operates on the route between the terminal in Himonas and the paper factory in Obbol. A three-axle tractor with a five-axle trailer moves almost silently, but the main thing is that one such road train during a year of operation will save the atmosphere from 55 tons of CO2. The Scania electric forest truck is so easy and comfortable to drive that a 20-year-old girl with the beautiful name of Linnaeus works on it with great pleasure.
It should be noted that Scania today offers electric trucks with different wheel formulas (4×2, 6×2, 6×2/4 and 6×4), wheelbase (3250 – 6350 mm) and cab types (L, P, G, R and S). Cars can be equipped with batteries with a capacity of 416 or 624 kWh. They provide the following range: up to 520 km – with a full vehicle weight of 29 tons; up to 440 km – at 40 tons and 320 km – for a 64-ton road train. It takes 85 minutes to fully charge the batteries from the 375 kW station.
Three models of electric power plants are offered. This is EM C1-2 – two-speed, with a constant power of 210/240 kW (280/320 hp), EM C1-4 – four-speed, 270/300/330/360/400 kW (260 – 540 hp .) and top EM C3-6 – six-speed, producing 400/450 kW (540/610 hp). It is possible to install three variants of power take-off boxes: electric, electromechanical and mechanical.
