A Tesla engineer has released little-known details about the Tesla Semi electric truck program. Currently, the Tesla Semi is known to be produced only in small batches at a factory outside the Gigafactory in Nevada.
In January 2023, Tesla announced a massive expansion of the Nevada Gigafactory to increase production of Tesla Semi trucks and finally expand the factory to its original planned size.
In fact, we've heard very little about the development of the Tesla Semi since Tesla launched the “production version” of the car in December 2022. It is reliably known that an electric tractor is used by the Pepsi company in California. There are also several cars in Tesla's own fleet, which run mainly between its factories.
Tesla Semi trucks are known to have transported more than 20,000 battery packs from the Nevada Gigafactory to the Fremont factory in its entire time. According to a company representative, electric vehicles have lower operating costs than diesel trucks.
