Toyota has announced that it will open charging stations for its luxury brand Lexus for all electric vehicles in Japan, following Tesla's lead in the US and around the world.
Last June, Lexus opened the first fast charging station in Tokyo. In December 2023, the second charging station, located in the public area in Karuizawa, was officially commissioned. These charging stations have fast chargers with a capacity of up to 150 kW.
Previously, Lexus charging stations were only available to Lexus owners. Owners could reserve a charging slot 60 days in advance through the My Lexus app and pay automatically through the app.
In addition, Lexus offers additional services such as free drinks, workplace and service discounts. These charging stations are now available to all electric car owners.
Ford was the first to announce plans to use Tesla charging stations. Almost all automakers followed suit, including Toyota and Lexus.
However, Tesla already has more than 15,000 stations in the US and Canada and more than 50,000 worldwide. For comparison, Lexus plans to build about 100 charging stations in Japan by 2030.
