The Volvo company is preparing two “new” electric crossovers at once, which should become the flagships of sales in the US market. It is about new three-row Volvo EX90as well as compact and more affordable EX30.
Volvo expects the new products to boost sales of electric cars in the US. The flagship Volvo EX90 should arrive in US dealerships later this year, and the EX30 in the second half of 2025.
Volvo's new electric crossovers are entering the market at a critical time. According to Cox Automotive, sales of Volvo's electric cars in the U.S. will drop 72% in the first half of 2024. Volvo sold just 2,109 units of the C40 and XC40 Recharge compared to more than 7,600 last year.
As a result, Volvo's share of the US electric vehicle market has fallen from 0.4% last year to 0.3% by June 2024. President of Volvo Cars USA, Michael Cotton, believes that things will quickly change for the better with the release of the next generation of electric vehicles.
According to Cotton, Volvo's flagship electric car was designed for the US market and will eventually be produced in the US market. With the seven-seat crossover segment driving the Swedish automaker's growth in the U.S., the EX90 is expected to play a key role in renewing electric vehicle sales.
