Volvo EX30 Versus Its $45,000 Competitors. EX30 Exudes Quality Inside And Out
Top Gear recently pitted the new Volvo EX30 against other electric crossovers in the ~£35,000 ($44,200) price range in the UK. Targeting young couples and small families, the comparison focused on comfort, ergonomic design, interior space, and ride quality.
The Volvo EX30 stood out with its top-notch cabin materials and build quality. The interior was praised as a “work of art” by Ollie Marriage, Head of Car Testing at Top Gear Magazine. The seats, air vents, and door handles were elegantly designed, making it the best-quality cabin among the competitors.
The Volvo EX30 boasts a 275-mile EPA estimated range and 270 hp, making it a strong contender in the compact crossover segment. The smooth, quiet ride and well-thought-out interior impressed Top Gear’s review team.
In terms of performance, the EX30 delivers with 270 hp and a 5.3-second 0-60 time in its single-motor configuration. While there is some body roll in turns, the EX30 offers a smooth ride and minimal road noise.
The Smart #1, based on the same platform as the Volvo EX30, shared similarities in batteries and chassis. However, the Volvo outshone the Smart with a superior ride quality. The Renault Megane, a size up from the EX30, featured good interior build quality but was criticized for its cluttered design.
Regarding other competitors, the Stellantis corporation triplets and the BYD Atto 3 failed to make a strong impression. The Kia E-Niro and Hyundai Kona were highlighted for their practicality and reliability.
In conclusion, Ollie narrowed down his top picks to the Renault, Smart, and Volvo EX30. His personal favorite was the EX30, describing it as a “good car” with high-quality features.
