Nissan And Honda Confirm They Want To Work Together On EVs
The recent announcement confirms the reports from Nikkei Asia about Nissan and Honda’s potential partnership in developing electric vehicle technology. The two Japanese automakers have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore a strategic partnership in vehicle electrification and intelligence, as indicated in a joint press release.
During the feasibility study, the companies will focus on collaborating on software development, core components such as batteries, and complementary products. While they are not starting on a new EV project immediately, the possibility of working together on a shared EV platform and electric axle has been discussed.
Previously, Honda had a partnership with GM for Electric vehicles, resulting in the Prologue and Acura ZDX all-electric crossovers. However, this collaboration was discontinued, leading Honda to explore options with Nissan. Both companies have plans for new EV models, including sedans and SUVs, but these are still a few years away from production. Nissan currently offers the Leaf and Ariya in the US market, while Honda has the Prologue and Acura ZDX, based on GM’s Ultium platform, available at dealerships.
