Polestar 7 To Succeed 2 In Brand’s Next-Generation EV Portfolio
The Polestar 2 has been a standout in Polestar’s efforts to provide top-tier Electric vehicles, but it hasn’t exactly set the sales charts on fire. In 2023, global sales only saw a modest 4% increase with just over 53,000 units sold, and Q4 sales in 2023 actually dropped by 43%. To revamp its sales figures, Polestar plans to completely transform the EV by 2027, starting with a rebranding to the Polestar 7.
Polestar’s naming convention has been somewhat confusing, with the 2 being a sedan on stilts, the 3 an SUV, the 4 a coupe-style SUV, and so on. The introduction of the Polestar 7 will bring it back to a next-generation iteration of the 2. CEO Thomas Ingenlath believes that by changing the name, they can break away from preconceived notions and push the boundaries of innovation.
The upcoming Polestar 7 is expected to utilize Geely Group’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) or a newer version of the platform. As the EV market shifts towards smaller and more affordable models, Polestar’s focus on high-performance and premium exclusivity may pose a challenge for the brand. Despite this, Polestar is set to launch the Polestar 3 and 4 in the U.S. market this year, aiming to expand its volume and revenue opportunities.
With dozens of new EVs set to enter the market by 2027, Polestar will have to deliver something truly groundbreaking with the Polestar 7 to make a lasting impact.
