Installing A $3,000 Tesla Cybertruck Basecamp Tent
When the Cybertruck was first unveiled in late 2019, it caught everyone’s attention with its daring design. Along with the Cybertruck, a few accessories were also introduced, such as the Cyberquad ATV and a tent attachment for the truck bed. However, these accessories disappeared from the spotlight for a while, only to return in a significantly altered form.
The Cyberquad ATV, initially intended as an off-road vehicle, was scaled down to a child-sized version in 2021 and eventually labeled as a $1,900 children’s toy after a recall by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Despite Elon Musk‘s assurances that the original ATV concept would still be released, its future remains uncertain.
Similarly, the tent accessory, known as the Basecamp, underwent a prolonged period of silence before Tesla eventually revealed the production-ready version this year. Unfortunately, the final product was a far cry from the sleek and integrated design initially showcased, resembling a generic and loose-fitting grey structure.
Although the Basecamp tent appears cheap in promotional materials, it actually comes with a hefty price tag of nearly $3,000. Assembly involves attaching the metal base, securing legs to the tailgate, fastening straps, inflating the tent with a manual pump, and stabilizing it with additional straps under the tailgate.
While the final Basecamp design may not be aesthetically pleasing, it is functional and can accommodate two adults comfortably. Despite its utility, many Cybertruck owners may opt for a more affordable and traditional tent option, saving money while awaiting potential aftermarket improvements.
