Stark Future Challenging FIM Over Not Letting EVs Compete
In February 2024, the conflict between electric motorcycle startup Stark Future and the FIM began to escalate. Stark Future had put in considerable time and effort to comply with the FIM’s regulations for its bike to compete in the SuperEnduro World Championship that year. However, at the last minute, the FIM altered the rules to prevent the Stark Varg from entering, as it was the only electric bike in a field of combustion bikes.
Unsurprisingly, Stark Future expressed its dissatisfaction with the situation. By March 2024, the FIM announced a new electric motorcycle racing support series to run alongside the MXGP class, but not in direct competition with it. Stark Future vehemently opposed this plan, highlighting its stance in the title of its official statement: “Stark Future Challenges MXGP Proposal for Segregated Electric Support Class.”
Stark Future advocated for the integration of electric bikes into racing alongside combustion bikes, drawing a comparison to the success of electric bikes competing with combustion bikes in other series. The company emphasized the importance of equal competition and innovation in motocross.
The founder and CEO of Stark Future, Anton Wass, expressed his belief that segregating electric bikes into a separate class hinders progress and limits the potential of electric technology in the sport. He emphasized the importance of showcasing competitive electric bikes alongside combustion engines to drive innovation and inclusivity in motocross.
The controversy raised questions about the motives behind the rule changes and whether they were designed to prevent the Stark Varg from dominating the competition. While speculation abounds, the situation underscores the complexities of integrating new technologies into established racing circuits.
Keep an eye on this. We've seen the Japanese autos struggling in China and now @VW.
There are openings for VW in US EV market, particularly with more ID.4, ID. Buzz and the @Porsche Macan.
