Tesla Model Y Driver Survives Deadly Construction Accident
Last week in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a terrifying accident occurred on the SE 3rd Avenue bridge during rush hour traffic. A Tesla Model Y and a Pontiac Vibe were both crushed by a construction crane that fell to the ground as they were crossing the bridge.
The massive piece of debris first struck the hood of the Model Y before hitting the Pontiac, causing severe damage to both vehicles. While the occupants miraculously survived, construction worker Jorge De La Torre tragically lost his life in the incident.
Following the accident, Model Y owner Mark Cerezin expressed relief and adrenaline, stating, “That’s my Tesla, it landed on me,” as a crowd gathered around the wreckage. “I’m 100% fine. It came from up there, I saw it coming down, it took off the front of my car. And I’m completely fine.”
According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, “A large section in the operation fell from an elevated position… 1 person deceased and two patients transported to Broward Health.”
At a press conference, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Chief Stephen Gollan explained that the construction company was “stepping the crane” at the time, and it was a platform with equipment that failed, causing the items to fall onto the bridge.
In a subsequent interview with CBS News Miami, Cerezin shared more details about the incident, recounting how he narrowly avoided the falling debris by hitting the brakes in time. He mentioned that all his airbags deployed and he couldn’t believe he had survived. After the ordeal, he helped another injured woman by applying pressure to her wounds with his shirt.
Despite the harrowing experience, all survivors were grateful to have escaped alive. Cerezin expressed his gratitude for being able to return home to his loved ones.
