The British engineering firm Bedeo presented an electric version of the Land Rover Defender 110. The electric SUV is the first model in the Reborn Electric Icons series announced by the company.
Like the base model, the electric Defender is all-wheel drive. It is driven by motor-wheels designed and manufactured by subsidiary company Protean Electric. The development of the system took eight years, including a test run across Europe with a length of more than 51.5 million km. To reduce weight and free up space between the driving wheels, it does not have a drive shaft. Also, the number of electrical cables has been reduced as much as possible. The curb weight of the electric Land Rover Defender 110 is said to be “only slightly greater” than the original four-wheel drive SUV.
Each engine produces 80 hp. and 649 Nm of torque. The total power of the units is 320 hp. The maximum torque is 2598 Nm. The maximum speed is 129 km/h. Acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h – 10 seconds.
Traction battery capacity – 75 kWh. Range – 246 km. The included 22 kW charger recharges the battery in 5 hours. Optional 50 kW fast charging allows you to recharge the battery in 90 minutes.
According to Bedeo CEO Osman Boyer, maintaining driving dynamics and demonstrating the benefits of electrification is the main goal of the company. The successful modernization of the iconic Defender demonstrates the versatility of technology patented by the British. Previously, they were used to modernize outdated diesel vans. After regeneration, they are used for last mile delivery.
Boyer did not update the cost of the electric Land Rover Defender 110. The expected price tag of the electric SUV is 100,000 pounds ($129,730). A quarter of this amount is the cost of engines. Also, the price tag will be affected by the decoration made to order.
