Chinese automaker BYD will release the next-generation Blade battery this year. The battery is expected to offer more range at an even lower price. FinDreams, BYD's battery development division, released the first generation Blade battery in 2020, revolutionizing the industry.
Blade batteries from BYD power Tesla, Ford, KIA, Hyundai, Toyota and other popular electric vehicles from major automakers. It's no secret that these batteries are the main reason for BYD's success. According to experts, by using lithium iron phosphate as the cathode material, BYD can make batteries much cheaper.
With a blade-like design, the new battery is designed for maximum safety while offering “ultra-long range and ultra-long life.” According to reports from Fast Technology, BYD CEO Wang Chuanfu said that the new battery will be even smaller and lighter with the same capacity.
The BYD executive added that the new battery will reduce electricity consumption by 100 km, which is likely to contribute to a longer range. The latest serial Blade batteries have an energy density of up to 150 Wh/kg. The battery of BYD's next-generation electric vehicle is expected to reach 190 Wh/kg. The company notes that BYD will release a new battery as early as August 2024.
