VW ID.2 Production Expansion
The VW ID.2, a highly anticipated electric vehicle, will also be produced in Martorell in the coming months. This expansion of production signals a significant step forward in Seat’s efforts to electrify its lineup.
New Models on the Horizon
In addition to the VW ID.2, an SUV based on the ID.2 (potentially called the ID.2 X) and the Skoda Epiq will be manufactured in Navarra. These new models are expected to further bolster Seat’s presence in the electric vehicle market.
Battery Assembly Facility Investment
Volkswagen has committed to investing 300 million euros in building a battery assembly facility in Martorell. This facility will cover 64,000 square metres and play a crucial role in producing small Electric cars and crossovers from the Spanish plants.
Increasing Production Capacity
Seat has announced that the battery assembly plant in Martorell will have an initial capacity of 1,400 battery systems per day. This capacity will support the assembly lines of the new electric cars and facilitate the production of larger quantities in the future.
Commitment to Electrification
During a visit to the construction site of the battery plant, high-ranking officials emphasized their commitment to bringing electric mobility to the masses. They highlighted the importance of affordable, appealing cars and leading-edge batteries in driving the shift towards e-mobility.
Call for Support
Seat’s CEO, Wayne Griffiths, called on the Spanish Government and Europe to support the transition to electromobility. He emphasized the importance of investments, the creation of new electric cars, and the redevelopment of factories in achieving the goal of electrification and decarbonization.
