Sales of the first Xiaomi car in China started only on March 28, and a new premiere is already promised at the end of the year. According to CarNewsChina, the Chinese tech giant is preparing an electric crossover. Also, the novelty will be offered in the EREV version (electric vehicle with increased range). In such a car, a small internal combustion engine is used to drive the electric generator.
The nameless crossover will be built on a yet-to-be-released platform that supports EREV. While Xiaomi's “first-born” – the SU7 sedan – uses the all-electric Modena architecture.
The main competitor of the upcoming crossover is called the Porsche Cayenne, which it looks very similar to. But in China, the Xiaomi novelty will have to fight for customers with Li Auto. This brand is called the local king of sales among large crossovers. Why are they all EREVs.
There is no technical information about the second Xiaomi model yet. The basic version of the SU7 sedan uses a 73.6 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack from BYD. The range is 700 km according to the Chinese CLTC method. The sedan reportedly garnered 50,000 pre-orders within 27 minutes of its launch.
