Lucid Gravity Aims To Be ‘The Best SUV In The World’
Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson boldly claims that the upcoming Gravity SUV will be “the best SUV in the world” and will redefine the Lucid brand. The manufacturer is documenting the journey to this goal in a series of videos called “Road to Gravity,” showcasing key aspects of the Gravity’s design and manufacturing process as it gears up for production by the end of 2024.
The Gravity, set to compete with rivals like the Rivian R1S, Tesla Model X, and Kia EV9, is expected to have a starting price of around $80,000 and offer impressive power similar to the Air sedan. It is anticipated to have a high-performance variant with over 1,000 horsepower using the tri-motor setup from the Air Sapphire.
With a projected EPA range of up to 440 miles and a 900-volt architecture for fast charging, the Gravity aims to be one of the quickest-charging electric SUVs available. It also promises practicality with three rows of seats, a spacious cargo volume of 112 cubic feet, and a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds.
The “Road to Gravity” videos highlight the SUV’s qualities and Lucid’s manufacturing capabilities. The company has expanded its production facility in Casa Grande, Arizona, increasing its annual production capacity significantly. This advanced production line will not only serve the Gravity but also future models, including the Air sedan and a midsize model.
Through the expansion, Lucid now has the capability to produce most critical components in-house, including using an advanced stamping facility to create car shells and bodies. The videos showcase Gravity SUVs in various stages of design and assembly, demonstrating the company’s commitment to quality and innovation.
