In recent months, customers have more choice in electric vehicles than ever before, and this choice will only grow over the next few years. It is interesting that at the same time dealers are not enthusiastic about the prospect of selling new electric cars.
A study by CDK Global of 250 major US dealerships found that 49 percent of their dealerships were not at all excited about selling electric vehicles.
Only 12 percent of dealers in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Kentucky said their sales force was moderately or very excited about selling electric vehicles.
Among the reasons for the lack of enthusiasm given by sales departments are geographical location and long distances between cities with heterogeneous charging infrastructure. This makes it difficult to convince car buyers that electric cars are a viable alternative to internal combustion engines.
Similarly, dealers in the northern states are concerned about the cold in winter. That said, the study also found that in southern states, only 24 percent of dealers said they were well trained to understand and sell electric vehicles.
