According to the German Federal Road Transport Authority, last year the number of electric cars in Germany increased by almost 396 thousand and amounted to just under 1.41 million. About this the DPA agency reported.
This means that one in every 35 cars in Germany is an electric vehicle (BEV).
If we add about 2,000 cars with fuel cells and 922,000 hybrids to 1.41 million, then there will be a total of 2.33 million such cars – or approximately one in 21 cars.
Thus, the growth in the number of electric cars was slightly higher than in 2022, when they were added slightly less than 395 thousand.
The authority assumes that a large number of vehicles registered in Germany have been destroyed in accidents, decommissioned or sold abroad.
In the current year, the number of electric cars may grow more slowly – partly due to the abolition of the state allowance for their purchase.
The largest group of electric vehicles in Germany are SUVs, which account for more than a third of registered BEVs – 487,000.
As for brands, Volkswagen is in the lead – in Germany there are about 237,000 electric cars of the company from Wolfsburg. Next come Tesla with 164 thousand and Renault with 120 thousand, Hyundai in fourth place with 92 thousand and BMW in fifth place with 85 thousand.
