Tesla's leadership in the electric car market is gradually being supplanted by new startups and already well-known automakers that have begun to manufacture innovative battery-powered cars. One such authority is Lucid Motors.
The confrontation between American electric cars Tesla and Lucid Air has reached a new level. Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson in an interview with Fox Business said that Lucid is “several years ahead” of Tesla when it comes to electric vehicles.
“I think if we look back 10-15 years ago, Tesla was a technology leader. I think Lucid has now pulled that mantle onto itself. I believe we are several years ahead of our core technology from Tesla.”– said Peter Rawlinson.
It will be recalled that Rawlinson once worked as the chief engineer of the Tesla Model S. Currently, the Lucid Air Sapphire electric car model created and so far the only one in the product range is rapidly gaining popularity. With more than 1,200 horsepower, the electric car accelerates to 60 mph (96.5 km/h) in just 1.89 seconds.
And while the Tesla Model S Plaid comes close, there's currently no mainstream EV faster than the Air Sapphire. Demand is growing. Lucid delivered 1,967 vehicles in the first quarter of 2024, which is nearly 40 percent more than the vehicles sold during the same period last year.
Currently, the Lucid Air offers the highest range, surpassing the 500 mile mark, which is 804.6 km. Depending on the configuration, Air offers a range of 660 to 830 kilometers. At the same time, the Lucid Air returns four miles per kWh, which is the best in the industry today.
In support of this, Rawlinson announced at Deutsche Bank's Global Automotive Conference earlier this June that the company had achieved an efficiency of five miles per kWh, a milestone confirmed by the EPA.
It is likely that the innovative increase in capacity and economy will already be implemented in the next Lucid Gravity model, which will be equipped with this high-efficiency battery.
