Mercedes-Benz promises that the new EQG, also known as the electric G-Class, will be a true SUV. There's no reason to doubt that claim, given that it looks almost identical to the diesel model.
Due to the fact that each wheel will get its own electric motor, the electric version can be more powerful. The separate electric motors are also good for convenient sideways movement if you happen upon a frozen lake in Sweden.
In this new video from Mercedes-Benz, CEO Ola Kellenius traveled to his home country to assess the capabilities of the new electric SUV, showing off the G-Class' capabilities at the company's winter test facility.
In the video, Kellenius also demonstrates how individual motors can control EQG thrust. After the acceleration test on ice, which Mercedes says takes “just a few seconds”, Kellenius starts to have even more fun. I wonder if the stabilization systems were turned off at the time of the drift.
The video ends with a short ride along a lakeside trail where we get some tech teasers. It is known that the production version of the electric SUV will make its debut this year, although specific dates have not been announced.
