Mercedes-Benz Trucks for the first time connected a megawatt charging station with a capacity of 1000 kW to its electric truck. It was a prototype of the main eActros 600 semi-trailer truck undergoing testing at the factory test site in Werthe am Rhein (Germany).
It should be noted that serial production of eActros 600 is planned for the end of 2024. The presence of batteries with a capacity of more than 600 kWh (hence the corresponding model index) and an efficient electric drive provides the tractor as part of a 40-ton train with a range of up to 500 km. And with intermediate charging at already existing stations with a capacity of 400 kW, this indicator can reach up to 1000 km per day.
Note that 60% of Mercedes-Benz Trucks customers drive their trucks no more than 500 km per day.
Using a network of MCS megawatt charging stations (with a charging current of more than 700 kW) will allow to effectively recharge the batteries during the mandatory 45-minute break according to the work and rest regime of drivers in the EU.
Today, Mercedes-Benz Trucks is carrying out all the necessary tests of ultra-fast charging, including the interface on the tractor, in order to accelerate the implementation of MCS megawatt stations as much as possible.
