The Mercedes G-Class 2024 lineup will soon be supplemented by an electric version. The first Gelendwagen electric car will be presented on April 24, and the next day it will be shown to the public at the Beijing auto show. It is reported on the official Mercedes-Benz website.
The electric car will be called Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology. Judging by the spy shots, it will differ from the standard Gelendwagen in the design of the radiator grille and bumpers.
Head of Mercedes G-Class development Emmerich Schiller said that the weight of the car will be less than 3.5 tons. It is known that the electric car will receive four electric motors at once and will definitely be more powerful than the 450-horsepower gasoline Mercedes G500.
The electric “Gelendwagen” will make its debut with a 100 kWh battery and a range of more than 500 km. In 2025, a more “long-range” version will appear, equipped with an innovative battery with a silicon anode.
Four electric motors and steerable rear wheels allow the Mercedes G580 to make a “tank” turn on the spot, which it has repeatedly demonstrated.
In addition, the electric “Gelendvagen” will retain off-road properties. Its clearance will be 249 mm, the entry angle is 32°, and the departure angle is 35°.
