Ram is working on a new compact electric commercial van for the US market. This new model could serve as a spiritual successor to the Ram ProMaster City and is based on the chassis of the Fiat Scudo and E-Scudo vans sold in Europe.
The original ProMaster City was produced between 2015 and 2022. Chrysler and Ram CEO Chris Feyel confirmed that a new electric commercial van is in the brand's plans during the brand's recent Investor Day.
Insiders believe that the Fiat Scudo and E-Scudo could become the basis for the new model.
In Europe, Fiat Professional sells the E-Scudo with a 50 or 75 kWh battery and, accordingly, a range of 330 km according to the WLTP cycle. In addition, the E-Scudo supports 100kW DC fast charging, meaning the battery can be charged from 0 to 80% capacity in 45 minutes.
Production of the new product may begin at the end of next year at the company's plant in Turkey. Autoblog has speculated that Ram's van replacement could be based on the Fiat Doblo chassis sold in Europe.
In any case, Feyel confirmed that the latest changes in the commercial part of the firm “will lead to record sales of Ram in 2025.” Both commercial and passenger versions of the electric van are believed to be in the works.
