Chinese electric cars may be banned in the US. “Smart” technologies that are packed into modern Chinese cars can collect and transmit data to the People's Republic of China – in particular to the military, US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said in the House of Representatives of Congress. In this regard, it is proposed to either interfere with their software, or completely remove them from American roads.
Whether they will ban “battery” Chinese cars or find a way to monitor “smart” electronics is still unclear, but this issue is already being discussed at the top. In any case, all data collected by electric cars must be stored in the United States, Raimondo said.
She also reminded that China is already restricting the use of US-made electric cars, including Tesla. Back in 2021, the PRC authorities privately asked employees of state-owned companies not to drive Teslas to work, and also not to drive them to areas where officials related to national security live. It was forbidden to use Tesla on the territory of military complexes, hospitals and airports.
The news of the new tightening policy on Chinese cars followed the decision to raise tariffs from 25 percent to 100 percent. Following the USA, they decided to raise fees in Europe, a much more important market for manufacturers of “green” cars from the PRC, as well as in Turkey and Canada.
