The company Tesla has updated the schedule for the release of the electric truck Tesla Semi, and now plans to go into serial production of the novelty “at the end of 2025”. In the past, the Tesla Semi production program has experienced significant delays that continued even after it officially began production.
The electric tractor was first presented in 2017, and according to the previous plans of the American automaker, it was supposed to enter the market in 2020, but it officially got on the assembly line only at the end of 2022.
In October 2023, it was revealed that Tesla had only produced about 70 Tesla Semi trucks, and the company was using them for itself and with one major customer, PepsiCo.
In January 2023, Tesla announced an expansion of the Nevada Gigafactory to produce the Tesla Semi, but more than a year later, we haven't heard much about those efforts.
Yesterday, after releasing its financial results for the first quarter of 2024, Tesla released a rare update on its production plans for the Tesla Semi.
“We are finalizing the development of the Semi to enable super cost-effective high-volume production using the knowledge gained. At the same time, we started construction of a plant in Reno. The release of our first vehicles is planned for the end of 2025, and external customers will start receiving the truck from 2026.”– noted Lars Moravi, Tesla's vice president of vehicle development.
