Rimac CEO Mate Rimac said that hypercar buyers are gradually moving away from electric sports cars. The bottom line, he says, is that serious customers want internal combustion engines and an analog feel, not what the masses are buying.
During the Financial Times Summit regarding the future of the cars, Rimac noted that a lot has changed since Rimac started developing the Nevera around 2017. Although electric car sales are slowing, consumers around the world have access to far more affordable options than they did a few years ago.
“Governments have introduced strict regulations to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles, and several automakers have already pledged to sell only electric vehicles by a certain date. But some are ready to change those plans. These forces impose on us what we don’t want, and people are a bit repulsed by it.”– he noted.
During the entire time, the Croatian company sold about 50 Nevera hypercars, but planned to release 150 pieces. Falling demand and changing consumer trends mean the successor to the Nevera could have an internal combustion engine.
“Rimac can be more than electric. The company is doing what is most exciting at the moment”– said the founder of the company.
