Chinese brand BYD plans to unveil its first mid-size electric pickup later this year, but images of the prototype have already surfaced online.
The company plans to expand its popularity and recognition in global markets, after BYD became the leader in sales of electric cars in the world in 2023, surpassing Tesla.
Although Tesla has regained the lead after the first quarter of 2024, BYD still plans to capture 50% of the electric car market in China, start production in Thailand and introduce several new models.
Some of them, including a new pickup truck, should be presented in Europe. The image of the novelty shared by the publication CnEVPost. It is reported that the company intends to sell it worldwide, and the pickup itself is larger than the new Toyota Hilux.
Rumor has it that the pickup truck will be launched under BYD's new “F” brand, which is also known as Formula Bao and Fang Cheng Bao. The exact characteristics of the model are not yet known.
Interestingly, in China, pickups are classified as light trucks and the government has imposed several significant restrictions on this class. Therefore, perhaps this became another reason why the company decided to sell it in other world markets.
The Radar RD6 model, developed by Geely, can be considered a competitor of the BYD pickup. The model is on sale from 2022 and, tellingly, Geely has also not been involved in the marketing of the car in China, but has focused on selling the RD6 in global markets, setting up the production of the car in Laos last year.
