The Trcuk&Bus development center in Munich hosted the first public demonstration of the megawatt MAN eTruck electric truck charging station. The novelty, developed by the ABB E-Mobility company, allows you to charge the main electric tractor's batteries from 10 to 80% capacity in just half an hour.
Thus, during the mandatory 45-minute break, according to the work and rest regime of the drivers, the driving range of the tractor in a loaded road train can be increased by 300-400 km. So far, the prototype of the station is designed for a charging current of 700 kW and 1000 A, although theoretically this indicator can reach 3.75 MW and 3000 A.
As Oleksandr Vlaskamp, CEO of MAN Truck&Bus noted, the goal is to install up to 30,000 megawatt MCS charging stations on European roads by 2030, 4,000 of which are in Germany. So far, CCS standard charging stations – with a capacity of up to 400 kW – are the fastest for trucks.
We would like to remind you that MAN Truck&Bus will start the first deliveries of eTGX and eTGS electric highway tractors already this year, and full-scale production will start in 2025. The machines can be equipped with six battery blocks with a capacity of 480 kWh. This allows a loaded road train to travel up to 800 km every day, taking into account charging from a 375 kW station during a mandatory 45-minute break.
