ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7, and ID. Buzz: These models from Volkswagen's ID family are well known to EV fans. You may also have heard about the ID.6 from China. But about ID.Unix? Unlikely. Let's get to know this model more closely.
Volkswagen ID.Unyx is the Volkswagen-branded version of the Cupra Tavascan model. The car concept was presented at the Beijing Motor Show, which was held from late April to early May. The photos and the first information were published in the database of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT) just before the exhibition.
ID.Unyx is the first model of the new “ID.UX” line. In total, it is planned to release five new electric cars that will appear on the Chinese market by 2027. With this initiative, Volkswagen intends to compete with BYD in the Chinese market.
It is planned that ID.Unyx will appear on the Chinese market as early as 2024. The similarity to the Cupra Tavascan produced in China is obvious. The main differences are the front bumper, headlights and rims.
The rear also has a lot in common, including an LED strip across the width of the car and a logo that glows in the center. However, the Chinese version of the Volkswagen has a large gloss black section at the bottom, which differs in shape from the Cupra.
The dimensions of ID.Unyx are similar to Tavascan: length – 4663 mm, width – 1890 mm, height – 1610 mm; wheel base – 2766 mm.
Inside, the ID.Unyx is equipped with a digital instrument panel, a 15-inch touchscreen and a projection display. There are no photos of the interior, but it is probably similar to the interior of the Tavascan, albeit without additional buttons on the steering wheel.
According to CarNewsChina, VW ID.Unyx will be offered with two types of drives. All-wheel drive provides 250 kW of power thanks to two motors – a rear one with 170 kW and a front one with 80 kW. The rear-wheel drive version will get a 170 kW engine.
Like the Tavascan, the Unyx will be produced at Volkswagen's Anhui plant, a joint venture between VW and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC). The Cupra Tavascan is exclusively for export, while the ID.Unyx will be sold in China.
The ID.Unyx will be the first model with the golden VW logo and fits in with the “In China, for China” strategy. As part of this strategy, VW plans to develop new platforms such as the China Electrical Architecture (CEA), which Xpeng will help with.
