Petrolhead Drives A 2024 Tesla Model Y For The First Time
The days of “Tesla first drives” dominating automotive YouTube are long gone. The majority of content creators now have experience driving a Tesla Model S, Model 3, or Model Y. However, Tesla managed to find a rare car enthusiast with no prior Tesla experience.
YouTube channel Lucy on Cars was approached by the electric automaker and offered a Tesla Model Y Standard Range for a week. Prior to this, Lucy had little experience with Electric vehicles. Starting the Tesla was a bit confusing for her, as it required a unique way to start without a traditional keyless start system. This was her first time in a Tesla, so she was unaware of alternative options such as pairing with a smartphone or using a key fob.
Although it was only the RWD Standard Range model, Lucy was impressed with the Model Y’s performance, particularly its acceleration. She found the exterior design to be unique, not following current trends but still a cool-looking car. The door handle design was sleek but took some getting used to for her and her family.
Inside, Lucy noted the high-quality materials, glass roof, and spacious rear-seat legroom. The seats were comfortable with customization options, and she appreciated the bright white interior. However, the minimalistic interior design was a bit disorienting for her, as it lacked traditional features like a gear shift or door handle.
She found the screen-focused interface to be simple yet frustrating at times, especially when adjusting settings like heating and airflow. Despite these limitations, she enjoyed features like Netflix and YouTube streaming, games in arcade mode, and boombox mode for music.
After a week of driving, Lucy found herself surprisingly fond of electric vehicles and considered the Tesla Model Y something special. Although she still had a preference for traditional big engines, she recognized the appeal of electric driving. She concluded that the Model Y was a perfect car for non-enthusiasts looking for a bit of driving fun.
