Watch Volvo EX30 Twin Motor Drag Race A Tesla Model Y Performance
InsideEVs has been closely monitoring the launch of the Volvo EX30 in recent months, which is the smallest electric offering from Volvo. This car hits a sweet spot that many EV buyers are currently seeking, as it is a reasonably sized vehicle with decent charging speeds, a satisfactory driving range, and an affordable starting price.
While the EX30 may not lead the pack in any particular category, opinions are divided on its Tesla-like, button-free cockpit. However, it is considered a good all-rounder and has a decent chance of filling the void in the North American EV market left by the Chevy Bolt EV.
In addition to its standard offering, the EX30 also comes in a dual-motor high-performance variant. In this configuration, it becomes the fastest production car that Volvo has ever released, with 422 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, a top speed of 112 mph, and a 0-60 mph time of just 3.4 seconds.
Recently, E-Drive Sweden conducted a drag race between the top trim EX30 Twin Motor Performance and a 2024 Tesla Model 3 Long Range. The Volvo outperformed the Tesla, finishing the quarter mile in 12.5 seconds.
Subsequently, the EX30 took on a 2024 Model Y Performance in another race, where both vehicles were evenly matched on paper. However, the Tesla’s rolling start acceleration and the Volvo’s throttle lag made for an interesting competition.
Despite showing some hesitation at the start, the EX30 was able to gain ground in the second run, finishing in just 12.04 seconds, slightly faster than the Model Y’s first run. Both drivers experienced the throttle lag issue, indicating that it was not caused by driver error.
Overall, the Volvo EX30 Twin Motor offers impressive performance and capabilities. Do you think it lives up to your expectations? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
