Uber Technologies has hired former Tesla executive Rebecca Tinucci to oversee the taxi service's transition to electric vehicles.
Uber plans to fully electrify its fleet by 2040 and has pledged to invest $800 million by 2025 to help achieve that goal. From mid-September, Tinucci will join the company as global head of sustainability.
Reuters reportsthat in this position she will help oversee the company's transition to a zero-emissions platform. She will report to Andrew McDonald, head of Uber's mobile business. Tinucci will also oversee the reduction of plastic waste in food delivery.
Previously, Tinucci was part of Tesla's senior management and led the electric vehicle charging team. This continued until CEO Elon Musk fired most of that team to cut costs.
The firing of about 500 employees from the Supercharger team has raised questions about the deals Elon Musk, Tesla's chief executive, made with General Motors, Ford Motor and other automakers last year.
