Elon Musk admitted that the Tesla Cybertruck pickup truck is very expensive. In social networks, the head of the American brand called the novelty a great truck, but said that it should be made more affordable.
Starting in 2025, Tesla intends to sell 250,000 Cybertrucks annually. At the same time, only 11,500 trucks were sold in the first six months of 2024. Switching to batteries with a dry cathode can change the situation.
Last month, the Tesla Cybertruck was tested with 4680 dry-cathode batteries: such cells are cheaper to manufacture and will reduce the cost of the pickup truck. Such trucks should go into production in the fourth quarter of 2025, but it is not known how much it will be possible to reduce the selling prices.
Currently, the basic pickup costs $80,000, and the Cyberbeast premium kit costs $100,000.
The original plan was different: in November 2019, Elon Musk promised that the basic rear-wheel drive Cybertruck would cost $40,000, and the top version would cost $70,000.
Now such prices are not even mentioned: in 2025, they plan to release a rear-wheel drive modification for $61,000, and without revolutionary cells, further price reduction is in question.
