Ford has announced that it will not release any new electric vehicles until it can make the models profitable.
An SUV similar to the Expedition was previously delayed (from 2026 to 2027). After canceling its production, the company will focus on creating new three-row SUVs with gasoline and hybrid engines.
“Ford is now planning to use hybrid technology for its next three-row SUVs. As a result of the decision, the company will take a special non-cash charge of approximately $400 million to write down certain product-specific manufacturing assets for previously planned all-electric three-row SUVs that Ford will no longer put into production. These actions may also result in additional costs and cash charges of up to $1.5 billion, which the company will reflect in the quarter in which they are incurred as a special item.”– it is said in a Ford message.
The expected successor to the F-150 Lighting, known as the T3 truck, is now expected to enter production in late 2027 instead of 2025.
“Taking into account all the knowledge customers have gained from the F-150 Lightning, the truck will offer features and capabilities never before seen on a Ford truck, including enhanced bi-directional charging capability and improved aerodynamics. The truck will be assembled at the BlueOval City Electric Vehicle Center in Tennessee.”– the company says.
