Recently, Honda presented a new line of electric cars called Ye at the Beijing Auto Show. Its first representative will be the Ye P7 mid-sized crossover. The car will go on sale in the Chinese market already this year.
For its existing model, Honda uses the name e:NS1, or e:NP1, depending on where the car is made: in a joint venture with Dongfeng or GAC. Simultaneously in Europe, the crossover is called e:Ny1.
As reported by Autocar, the name of the Honda electric car will be changed. It is reported that the updated model, in addition to the changed name, will also receive some elements from the new Ye P7, in particular, the illuminated Honda badge.
The company is said to have retained the 'P' and 'S' labeling system depending on where the car will be assembled, however, in Europe the facelifted model may be called the Y1. In this way, Honda wants to avoid the potential use of the names McLaren and Audi, whose lineup includes the P1 and S1, respectively.
In addition, one of the Chinese car manufacturers had a scandal with Audi. Then the German automaker forced the Chinese company Nio to change the names of its ES6 and ES8 SUVs, because they sounded too similar to the S6 and S8.
As for the new Ye P7/S7, the car is based on Honda's new EV platform. The Japanese automaker has already made a loud statement that it plans to present 10 new electric cars in China by 2027.
