The company Stellantis has ambitious plans to create an electric line of passenger cars in Europe by 2030. In the United States, the concern's goal is 50 percent by the same time. It is interesting that the company does not plan to abandon the creation of a car with an internal combustion engine, if buyers demand it.
CFO of Stellantis, Natalie Knight, recently stated the flexibility to create internal combustion engine vehicles based on electric platforms. In short, if there is a demand for an electric vehicle version with an internal combustion engine, the Stellantis brands are open to its creation.
“I don't want to ignore the fact that we want to stay closer to the consumer, and if we see that there is an opportunity with the models that we initially presented as electric cars, we will look at it.”she said.
This flexibility is definitely an advantage. But here one cannot help but think about a broader issue. What will happen if in 2030 75 percent of buyers in the US or in certain European markets want a car with an internal combustion engine? Will this derail the plans set out in Dare Forward 2030?
An unnamed spokesperson for Stellantis confirmed that the company is not currently changing or revising aspects of its 2030 goal. But there are only six years left until 2030, and it is possible that if the brands of the concern want to preserve their fate in the world markets, they will be forced to partially abandon the previously announced plans.
