The British brand Land Rover launched the Range Rover Sport in 2005, and the current third generation debuted in the spring of 2022. The top version with the SV application was presented at the end of spring last year.
In the European market, this SUV is generally doing well: according to Jato Dynamics, it sold 15,596 copies in the first half of 2024, which is 47% more than in January-June of the previous year. It is known that the model will have a version with a new “stuffing” in the future.
Earlier it became known that the Range Rover will have an electric version, and now there is information that the Range Rover Sport will also have a “green” modification. Proof of this is the photos of the prototype, which is at the stage of testing in the southern part of Europe.
The electric Range Rover Sport is expected to act as a sportier and more dynamic alternative to the Range Rover Electric. According to preliminary data, SUVs will receive an 800-volt architecture and a traction lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 100 kWh. Range Rover Sport will have a range of more than 500 km (according to the WLTP cycle) on a single charge.
It is expected that this “electric train” will have four-wheel drive and a two-motor power plant (one electric motor on each axle). The cumulative return of this system is still unknown.
As a reminder, the current line of SUVs includes 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engines from the Ingenium family: diesels D250 (249 hp, 600 Nm), D300 (300 hp, 350 Nm) and D350 (350 hp , 700 Nm). They can work as part of a mild hybrid installation in tandem with a 48-volt superstructure and a small buffer battery. And gasoline “sixes” – P360 (360 hp, 500 Nm) and P400 (400 hp, 550 Nm) – are part of MHEV systems by default. All options are paired only with an 8-speed ZF “automatic”.
Even in current range there are plug-in hybrids P460e and P550e, both versions are based on a gasoline engine that works in a set with an electric motor integrated in the automatic transmission and a battery. The maximum range when driving on electric traction is 119 km.
It is expected that the production version of the “green” Range Rover Sport may debut in the second half of 2025.
