The CEO of the company – Ola Kellenius confirmed that the launch of the electric Mercedes-Benz C-Class will take place in 2026.
As reported by Autocar, the head of Mercedes-Benz said that the new electric C-Class will debut alongside the new GLC electric SUV. The novelties are based on the MB.EA platform and will be representatives of the higher segment of cars currently occupied by CLE and E-Class.
At the same time, the entry-level models in the Mercedes-Benz lineup will be the CLA, GLA and GLB. These three models will use the MMA platform and the first of them, the new CLA, should be presented as early as 2025.
However, despite the growing model range of electric cars, Mercedes-Benz will also continue to produce cars with internal combustion engines, because the company has revised its electrification plan. Compared to last year, sales of electric vehicles fell by 25% from 61,211 units sold to 45,843.
At the same time, the automaker sold 27% more plug-in hybrids, selling 44,120 cars.
“We have to realize that due to the speed of the transition to electric cars, it is almost impossible to predict how long it will take. We are one of the few companies well-positioned to play the flexibility card into the 2030s.”– said Kellenius.
