Last week, the long-awaited premiere of the Xiaomi SU7 electric car took place, the company started accepting orders, and in the first half hour their number exceeded 50,000 units, and at the end of the first day it reached 88,898 units. Attempts to place an order through Xiaomi's proprietary program are now accompanied by an offer to wait for the machine for five or seven months, depending on the configuration.
This was reported by the Reuters agency, which combined the company's founder Le Jun's statements on the Weibo social network pages with his own verification of the state of affairs through Xiaomi's proprietary app. The base version of the SU7 electric car, according to the source, will reach customers between 18 and 21 weeks if orders are placed now.
Those who want to get the more expensive version of the Xiaomi SU7 Pro will have to adjust to approximately the same waiting time, while the most expensive SU7 Max will be manufactured and delivered within a period of 27 to 30 weeks. Thus, the most expensive versions of Xiaomi's first electric car will require the buyer to wait six to seven months.
The Founders Edition, limited to 5,000 units, offered a generous set of options as a gift, but sold out as soon as orders opened. Le Jun promised at the weekend that several more electric cars will be released in this configuration, but he did not specify the details of this promotion. The company, he said, had to block suspiciously high activity at the time of the start of accepting orders, as many of them were probably placed by potential speculators.
The plant in the Chinese capital, which was built by Xiaomi and transferred to the management of BAIC Group for the contract production of SU7 electric vehicles, is designed to produce 200,000 cars per year. It is possible that the model will remain in short supply during the first year of sales.
