Kia Global EV Retail Sales Surged In April 2024
Kia’s global vehicle sales in April totaled 261,022, representing a 0.6% increase from the same period last year. In the first four months of 2024, total sales exceeded 1 million, down 0.6% year-over-year.
While overall sales remained relatively flat, Kia experienced significant growth in all-electric car sales. The company anticipates continued momentum in EV sales with the introduction of the new EV3 and updated EV6 models in the latter half of 2024.
Kia’s EV lineup is expanding, currently offering three E-GMP-based models (EV5, EV6, and EV9), with EV3 and EV4 soon to follow. Additionally, the company sells the Niro EV, Soul EV, Bingo EV, and Ray EV (the latter two exclusively in South Korea).
Retail all-electric car sales for Kia reached 17,140 units in April, marking a 90% increase from a year ago. The share of EVs in the brand’s total volume nearly reached 7%.
Wholesale shipments of Kia’s E-GMP-based models, encompassing EV3, EV6, and EV9 production in South Korea, and EV5 in China, totaled 8,904 in April, a 6% decrease year-over-year.
Kia’s best-selling EV model is the EV6, which saw 5,728 wholesale units in April, down 39% from the previous year. The company foresees improved results once the updated version launches.
Year-to-date, Kia’s retail EV sales surpassed 61,000, with a growth rate exceeding 70%. Wholesale shipments of E-GMP-based models exceeded 44,000.
In 2023, Kia’s wholesale shipments of E-GMP-based Electric cars amounted to 132,711, up 59% year-over-year.
