MINI is preparing an electric hot hatch for the premiere: John Cooper Works will be presented in Goodwood on July 11 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
This is just a prototype of the new MINI John Cooper Works. The corresponding production model John Cooper Works E will be presented towards the end of the year or a little later. However, a showing at the Goodwood Festival of Speed is justified. This will be a kind of test trip to study the reaction to the newcomer.
“The MINI John Cooper Works E PROtotype, as the car is called in the press release, will be no less than an 'important milestone' for MINI – precisely because it will be the first fully electric JCW model. With its amazing design and advanced electric drivetrain, this prototype embodies MINI's commitment to innovation and electric mobility.”– says the BMW brand.
In the current generation, which was developed together with Great Wall, the Cooper S with a four-cylinder petrol engine already produces 150 kW. Now a performance boost is likely – future versions of the JCW will be available with both electric and petrol engines. Whether the John Cooper Works E will also have a new battery (Cooper SE: 54.2 kWh) will obviously only be known during the world premiere.
The sporty version of “MINI John Cooper Works” should not be confused with the equipment line “John Cooper Works Trim”. The equipment line is already available on the Cooper E and Cooper SE and includes sporty design elements inside and out.
On the other hand, the “full-fledged” JCW models have not only a sporty design, but also more power and a more dynamically tuned chassis. Exact changes in the electric version are still unknown.
