The Geely holding reacted in its own way to the record sales of the Xiaomi SU7: the sedan's equipment was significantly revised. From now on, Zeekr offers 007 with an extended warranty (six years or 150 thousand kilometers); the initial configuration for 209,900 yuan ($29,000) includes premium options: multi-contour front seats and new active safety assistants.
One of the success factors of Xiaomi SU7 was the attractive starting price – 216 thousand yuan (29,500 US dollars). And although the basic Zeekr 007 is three percent cheaper, Geely decided to offer even more options. Now front seats with ventilation, massage and 14-range electric adjustment, heating of the rear sofa, projection screen, audio system with 21 speakers, parking assistant and lane control system will not require additional payments.
As recently as three months ago, the above options were available as part of paid packages for a total price of 20 thousand yuan, so Zeekr actually reduced the price by almost ten percent! The equipment of the basic sedan has not changed: this version has rear-wheel drive, an electric motor with a capacity of 422 hp. and a 75 kWh battery, and the range reaches 688 kilometers on the CLTC cycle.
In the three years since its launch, Zeekr has never turned a profit. In 2023, about 119,000 Zeekr electric cars were sold in China, which does not meet the target of 140,000 units. Zeekr's losses totaled more than 20 billion yuan ($2.766 billion) and reserves fell to 3.3 billion yuan ($456 million). Xiaomi's reserves, meanwhile, are 120 billion yuan ($16.6 billion): The IT giant has announced that it is prepared not to make a profit from its automotive division for five years.
