AccuWeather Calls Out Tesla Cybertruck Caught In New Orleans Storm
On April 10th, severe thunderstorms devastated the southern United States, with New Orleans bearing the brunt of the damage. The city experienced winds of 70 miles per hour and over 8 inches of rainfall, leading to many roads being completely impassable, especially for smaller vehicles. The rapid accumulation of rain overwhelmed the city’s drainage pumps, hindering their ability to move water efficiently or generate enough power to operate at full capacity.
Despite the high water levels resulting from the storm, several trucks and SUVs ventured onto the flooded streets that day, including a Tesla Cybertruck that caught the attention of AccuWeather’s social media team. While the Twitter post seemed to target the Cybertruck driver, it was not the only vehicle navigating the flooded streets.
Driving through floodwaters is hazardous regardless of the vehicle, but the water levels observed in New Orleans were not out of the ordinary for flash floods common in Louisiana, Texas, and other Gulf Coast states. The Cybertruck’s ‘Wade Mode’ made it suitable for such conditions, enabling it to drive through bodies of water. However, Elon Musk‘s claims of it serving as a boat are unfounded, as the Cybertruck is not capable of floating on open water.
Tesla’s listing of the Cybertruck’s maximum wade depth at 32 inches underscores the caution needed when using this feature. While the vehicle’s ‘Wade Mode’ can be engaged under specific conditions, Tesla warns against entering deep water, as any damage incurred is not covered by the warranty.
In conclusion, while the Cybertruck may offer certain advantages in flooded conditions, it is crucial to exercise caution and avoid unnecessarily risking the vehicle or personal safety. AccuWeather admonishes against reckless behavior, emphasizing the importance of safety when faced with such extreme weather events.
