The problem, which is related to the insecure fastening of the cargo rails of the trunk, which can break in the event of an accident, has forced BMW to recall 291,112 X3 crossoversproduced in the period from 2017 to 2022.
Carscoops reportsthat the recall campaign affects the X3 sDrive30i, X3 xDrive30i, X3 M40i and X3 M models. Cargo rails in the trunk of crossovers exist to accommodate heavy cargo and prevent the possibility of secondary damage from it in an accident.
BMW has discovered that in nearly 300,000 crossovers, these rails can break at the time of an accident and cause the possibility of injury to passengers. The company is recalling 291,112 vehicles rolled off the assembly line between March 2017 and September 2022.
Despite the fact that these rails are unlikely to create a problem, because, as experts have found, the mount deforms only with a very strong impact to the rear of the car, BMW management decided to announce a recall campaign.
It is known that BMW specialists first became aware of the problem in August 2022 after a serious accident involving the X3. However, engineers could not test the car for more than 18 months because the owner was busy with a court case. The automaker instructed dealers to replace this element free of charge on all affected cars.
