Factorial, which has been making lithium-metal solid-state battery cells for research for some time, has given Mercedes-Benz a batch of batteries for testing.
Factorial is known to have supplied Mercedes-Benz with more than 1,000 solid-state cells with a capacity of more than 100 Ah.
“We are delighted to reach this important milestone with a global automotive leader such as Mercedes-Benz. The rapid transition from the first research prototypes to a near-ready product in less than a year highlights our innovation capabilities at Factorial, and we continue to work hard to accelerate the adoption of solid-state batteries in the automotive industry.”– noted the co-founder and CEO of Factorial Xiu Huang.
With higher-capacity solid-state cells available, Mercedes-Benz is integrating them into electric vehicle modules and battery packs for rigorous testing and optimization, hoping to one day offer them to consumers in passenger cars.
“We are committed to leading the way in battery technology innovation and our partnership with Factorial is an important part of that strategy. These battery samples give us the opportunity to further test next-generation technology to increase range and lower overall costs.”– added Chief Technical Officer and Board Member of Mercedes-Benz Group AG Markus Schaefer.
Mercedes-Benz said it will monitor Factorial's supply chain and manufacturing processes to ensure true scalability of manufacturing processes. Factorial is also known to have joint development agreements with Stellantis, Hyundai Motor Company and KIA Corporation.
